Search Hints

- Type only one word per box.
- Use letters only: no apostrophes, hyphens, numbers, or quotation marks.

Correct: [beef]
Correct: [Beef] or [BEEF]

Incorrect: ["beef"]

Correct: [beef]   [steak]   [sirloin]
Correct: [McDonald]

The easiest way to use the seach mechanism is to enter one main word, such as [cake], [cookies], [oil] , etc. This will give you a list of all foods containing that term.

Warning - you will get a result even if your search term occurs inside a word. So if you search for [round] your results will include "ground beef". (This isn't really a big problem, but you could avoid it by using USDA abbreviations -- a big hassle for such a small problem.)

Entering a brand name will narrow the search down significantly. Example: Oreo. You can also narrow your search by entering an additional word in the second and then the third box.

The last box should contain a number between 1 and 999. This determines how long each page of results will be. We suggest 30 because that just about fills a single screen.
